My Top Ten Tips for beating the rain at a Festival

This year was our 4th at Camp Bestival in Dorset. Being Dorset residents, we often boast of our own mini-microclimate and any bad weather seems to avoid us, even when the rest of the country is suffering with storms. On the run up to Camp Bestival, however, I was checking BBC Weather daily and by the time it was ready to pack, it looked increasingly likely that it was going to rain at some point, so we needed to be prepared. We arrived to beautiful sunshine on Thursday and went about exploring the site to see what was on offer… Continue Reading “My Top Ten Tips for beating the rain at a Festival”

What the kids are looking forward to seeing at Camp Bestival 2017

andyandtheoddsocks1061_ALEX_LAKE

Cannot believe that Camp Bestival is just one more sleep away. The kids have been busily scanning the website to see who is there this year and it is safe to say that they are uber excited by some of the acts. Back in February we were introduced to Fun Kids Radio during a very long journey to Scotland and there was one band in particular that they wanted to here: Andy and the Odd Socks and particularly the ‘Cheeky Bum Song’. At the time we had no idea that it was actually Andy Day of Cbeebies fame, who is… Continue Reading “What the kids are looking forward to seeing at Camp Bestival 2017”

10 Reasons we are Staying with Pitch Village at Camp Bestival

Pitch Village

This year will be our 4th year at Camp Bestival and saying we are excited is an understatement! Last year, however, we discovered a new way to camp and will never go back to general camping again. Pitch Village takes the fuss out of festivals so you can get back to enjoying the bands and amazing atmosphere! They are a “pre-pitched accommodation provider” which means they will have everything from the tent pitched to the mattress inflated before you arrive on site. The benefits of staying with Pitch Village 1.  One Car: Before now we have had to take two… Continue Reading “10 Reasons we are Staying with Pitch Village at Camp Bestival”

Our Family Festival Packing List

With less than a month until Camp Bestival 2017 my thoughts have turned to what we need to pack. We are seasoned Camp Bestival campers with it being our fourth year, but every year we add something to our must pack list, as it does change slightly as the kids get older. Camp Bestival is held at Lulworth, a spectacular site in the heart of Dorset which is very hilly so you have to make an executive decision where you pitch your tent. It is either close to your car or close to the main site and I would recommend… Continue Reading “Our Family Festival Packing List”

My Top 10 Posts of 2016

Omaha Beach

I always find it fascinating looking at my stats and seeing which posts have been the most popular in the last year – it is rarely the ones you think it will be and this year is no exception. I enjoy researching travel almost as much as travelling itself and it looks as though I am not alone. 1. My top post this year was a bucket list post for visiting Thailand and I have to say that looking back, I can see why as the images draw you in and whisk you off to a warmer climate. 2. My second most… Continue Reading “My Top 10 Posts of 2016”

The Big Camp Bestival Linky 2016

Camp Bestival

It is back to earth with a bump after a fabulous weekend at Camp Bestival which more than delivered everything it promised from fun activities to try, great music, scrummy food and rounding it all up with an impressive firework finale. My Camp Bestival linky for 2015 was very popular with lots of people visiting to research the event, so I have decided to put another one together this year as there is so much to see and do that there just isn’t time to fit it all in and everyone has a completely different experience of what Camp Bestival has to… Continue Reading “The Big Camp Bestival Linky 2016”

My Top 10 Family Festival Must Haves!

Camp Bestival 2015

It is the month of July, which means festival season is well and truly upon us and this month I am heading to not one, but two family festivals – Larmer Tree in Wiltshire and Camp Bestival in Dorset. As a family we have been attending festivals for 4 years now and I am often asked what my must have items to take are, so without further ado, here are my top ten must haves! 1.  A Festival Trolley – decorated or not a trolley is not only great for taking the camping gear from the car to the pitch… Continue Reading “My Top 10 Family Festival Must Haves!”

Teenage Escapism at Camp Bestival with the Den

Camp Bestival

Camp Bestival is very pleased to announce that one of its most exclusive areas, The Den, is returning by popular demand to Lulworth Castle for its third year. Dedicated to 13-17 year-olds, The Den is a secret festival within a festival, featuring an alluring array of live music, DJs, workshops, talks and activities. And it’s the epitome of the teenage dream; no adults allowed! Rob da Bank says: “The Den is one of the best bits of Camp Bestival and I would spend all my time there but I’m not allowed in… From ace music and DJs like Kiko Bun, Dawson and Katy Wilson to all the… Continue Reading “Teenage Escapism at Camp Bestival with the Den”

Take the hassle out of camping at Camp Bestival with Pitch Village

Camp Bestival

We love Camp Bestival but there are two parts of the weekend that we don’t look forward and that are very hard work – finding a pitch and setting up the tent. Lulworth by nature is very hilly and depending where you pitch your tent, it is either close to your car or close to the main site. There are lots of hills to climb and dragging a trolley full of camping equipment and /or kids is very hard work. It normally takes us 5 or 6 trips to and from the cars to get all our camping equipment and clothes… Continue Reading “Take the hassle out of camping at Camp Bestival with Pitch Village”
