Our favourite beaches for Fossil Hunting in Dorset

You are probably thinking I am mad talking about fossil hunting during the winter months, but it is the perfect time of year for it, as stormy weather churns up the beaches exposing the fossils from the rocks and the cliffs. Dorset is famous for being the home of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site which stretches from Studland Bay in Dorset westwards towards Exmouth in East Devon, a distance of approximately 96 miles. The coastline features outstanding geology with parts dating back over 185 million years. For this reason it is a hotbed for fossil hunting with hundreds of… Continue Reading “Our favourite beaches for Fossil Hunting in Dorset”

What to expect at Camp Bestival 2017

Camp Bestival

It is no secret that Camp Bestival is one of the highlights of the year for us. Based locally here in Dorset at the spectacular Lulworth Castle, Camp Bestival is a true family friendly festival that features entertainment, activities and live performers that will delight guests, young and old. For the last few years it has had a theme, which has seen us dress up as characters from the Gruffalo, Circus Performers and Space Men. This year is no exception with the theme of Popstars and Rockstars and although we have yet to decide who we are going as, I… Continue Reading “What to expect at Camp Bestival 2017”

#SailwithSanta with City Cruises Poole

Last year we enjoyed a rather blustery Santa Cruise with City Cruises Poole and despite the weather doing its best to dampen our spirits we couldn’t wait to do it again this year. Thankfully this year the weather was the complete opposite of last year and Poole Harbour was a millpond when we arrived to Sail with Santa. We were over the moon to be welcomed by Dr Balloonman whom had entertained the kids so brilliantly last year. We collected our complimentary soft drink and cookie for the kids and our mince pie and warming coffee (they also offer a glass of mulled… Continue Reading “#SailwithSanta with City Cruises Poole”

Pantomime fun with Cinderella at the Pavilion

Cinderella

We love Panto in our house and last week I got to see not one, but two local Pantomimes. The first one was Cinderella at the Pavilion and I took Sebastian to see it with our local pre-school. Melanie Walters (Gwen from Gavin and Stacey) opened the show as the magical Fairy Godmother and set the scene for show before we were introduced to the rest of the cast. Dani Harmer (Tracey Beaker) played Cinderella, whilst X-Factor’s Rhydian was a very regal as Prince Charming, but personally it was Noel Brodie and Gary Jordan that stole the show for me as… Continue Reading “Pantomime fun with Cinderella at the Pavilion”

Panto Fun with Aladdin at Lighthouse Poole

He’s Behind You!! Oh no you’re not! Oh Yes we are! Three fun phrases that are bound to get the audience shouting and screaming at a pantomime. I love this time of year and one of the highlights of the year is always taking the kids to the pantomime. This year I got to do two in one week, taking Sebastian to see Cinderella at the Pavilion with pre-school and Eliza and Isaac to see Aladdin at Lighthouse Poole with the school. I am sad to admit that Cinderella was really disappointing. It was far too long, the cast didn’t… Continue Reading “Panto Fun with Aladdin at Lighthouse Poole”

Indoor Climbing Fun at Rockreef, Bournemouth

Rockreef

It has been quite some time since we last visited Rockreef in Bournemouth and Isaac has been nagging us to go back, so when a half price offer for Bournemouth residents popped up, I knew we had to take advantage of it. Rockreef is situated on Bournemouth Pier and offers Clip ‘n’ Climb, Caving, Highline and the Pier Zip. Sadly Isaac and Eliza are not 1.3m which ruled them out of the Highline but they still got to enjoy the Clip ‘n’ Climb and the Pier Caves. You start the day getting kitted up in safety gear and a short… Continue Reading “Indoor Climbing Fun at Rockreef, Bournemouth”
