The day the Gruffalo came to life at Moors Valley

Today we were one of the first to visit a new augmented reality trail at Moors Valley. The self-led trail is packed with fun facts about forest animals with fantastic activities to enjoy along the way and is completely free to do although you can purchase an additional activity pack at the visitor centre for an extra £3 if you choose. To take part simply download the Gruffalo Spotter app before you visit which brings Julia Donaldson’s fabulous Gruffalo to life along the trail by simply reading the special code at selected points along the trail. The really clever bit is that once you’ve… Continue Reading “The day the Gruffalo came to life at Moors Valley”

Robin Hood at The Mayflower Southampton

Robin Hood

This year I have been in Panto heaven with not one, not two but three pantomimes to see. My first was Cinderella at the Pavilion, Bournemouth, the second was Aladdin at Lighthouse, Poole and on Christmas Eve, Hubby surprised us with tickets to watch Robin Hood at the Mayflower. We love our local productions, but there is something special about the Mayflower as it seats 55,000 people and always does West End quality productions. This year the Panto stars were Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace (Alfie and Kat from Eastenders) and Jeffrey Holland of Hi-De-Hi fame as the Dame. It… Continue Reading “Robin Hood at The Mayflower Southampton”

A Visit to Car Fest South

Right at the end of the summer we spent our last weekend of freedom at Car Fest South in Hampshire thanks to an invite from Peugeot. As it is less than an hour from home and we had just returned from a holiday abroad we made the decision to travel up to the event on both days, rather than camp. I have always wanted to go to Car Fest, but Hubby is not car mad and was skeptical about a car led event, but we all had the most amazing time. Car Fest is an annual motoring festival held in Cheshire… Continue Reading “A Visit to Car Fest South”

New Forest Fairy Festival Review

New Forest Fairy Festival

Do you believe in Fairies? Nestling in the lea of a hill where time stood still for hundreds of years surrounded the mighty oaks, tree spirits and woodland creatures, live the Forest Folk, under every leaf, behind every tree you might see them and listen for the fairy bell and they will appear, their gossamer wings glinting in the sunlight. The New Forest Fairy Festival is held in Burley, New Forest and is a weekend packed with entertainment and workshops for the whole family and you are all (including Dad’s) positively encouraged to dress in your finest Fairy and Elf… Continue Reading “New Forest Fairy Festival Review”

Forest Segway Experience with Go Ape!

Go Ape Segway

How do you fancy getting off the beaten track for an hour of fun with a Forest Segway Experience from Go Ape? Kian finally finished his GCSE’s this week which means he no longer has to go to school and we were keen to give him an experience he would enjoy after all his hard work in the past few weeks. Back in March we visited Go Ape at Moors Valley to take part in their Tree Top Adventure. Whilst we were walking through the trees and hurtling down the ziplines we saw a group out on Segways and all remarked… Continue Reading “Forest Segway Experience with Go Ape!”

Gourmet Burger Kitchen Southampton Review

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

I had never heard of Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) until Hubby took the kids to Birmingham to watch WWE Live and had a pre-show meal in one of their branches. Upon his return home he did nothing but sing their praises so when we headed to Southampton to watch Mary Poppins the Musical it was the restaurant he was determined to take me to. GBK was first set up back in 2001, by three Kiwi guys including world-renowned chef Peter Gordon in Battersea, South London, changing the UK burger scene forever. Now they have over 70 restaurants across the UK, priding… Continue Reading “Gourmet Burger Kitchen Southampton Review”

Practically Perfect in Every Way!

Mary Poppins

It is not often that Hubby and I get out without the children but when we do it is something we make the most of. For Mother’s Day this year the kids (aka Hubby) bought tickets to go and see Mary Poppins the musical which is touring the country at the moment and has made a stop at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre. I adore the film and couldn’t wait to see how they transported all my favourite songs from TV to stage and was not disappointed. In fact both Hubby and I were blown away by the amazing performances by Zizi… Continue Reading “Practically Perfect in Every Way!”

D-Day Museum Portsmouth

Portsmouth D-Day Museum

Back in February we paid a visit to Normandy with a plan to visit all the D-Day landing beaches and museums about the war. It was a subject that both my husband and teen were fascinated by and we all learned a lot about the subject on our visit. In fact, we also found out that many of the vessels that set off on this mammoth operation were actually made or set off from close to home. Since our return, Hubby has been keen to visit Portsmouth’s D-Day Museum as it is Britain’s only museum dedicated solely to covering all aspects of the D-Day… Continue Reading “D-Day Museum Portsmouth”

Paultons Park – Fun for all the Family

We are frequent visitors to Paultons Park as it is just a half and hour drive from home and I often get asked if it is worth visiting. Home to Peppa Pig World, if you have a pig loving toddler then the answer is a resounding ‘YES!” but now there is even more to do for families with older children with the launch of the Lost Kingdom. Paultons Park is set just off the M27 in Romsey, Hampshire and is a stunning park. Not only does it have rides to keep the kids entertained but it also set in some… Continue Reading “Paultons Park – Fun for all the Family”

10 of our favourite places to visit in Hampshire with Kids

Historic Dockyard

Living in East Dorset, the county of Hampshire is a stones throw from us, so in 2015 we vowed to explore more of this area. Hampshire is a beautiful county with miles of coastline, the New Forest and the South Downs to explore plus much more. We have only seen a fraction of it, but here are some of our favourite places, so far. 1.  Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth. Soaring 170 metres above Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent, the Emirates Spinnaker Tower is taller than the London Eye, Blackpool Tower and Big Ben. Take the express lift to the first of the… Continue Reading “10 of our favourite places to visit in Hampshire with Kids”
