Climbing Arthur’s Seat with the Kids – Edinburgh

Arthurs Seat

During our visit to Edinburgh castle, you cannot help but admire the surrounding countryside and I was particularly struck by the beauty of Arthur’s Seat. Arthur’s Seat is the main mountain in Edinburgh at 251 metres high and forms most of Holyrood Park. It is actually an ancient volcano and it was the striking Salisbury Cliffs that really stood out for me from our view-point. On our last full day in Scotland we gave the kids the choice of where they wanted to do and they decided upon Dynamic Earth, a visitor attraction that tells the story of the planet Earth.… Continue Reading “Climbing Arthur’s Seat with the Kids – Edinburgh”

Planning a visit to Normandy

La Mont St Michel

My husband and son are both fascinated by the World Wars and can often be found watching documentaries on the subject and with Kian studying the facts behind WW2 for his history GCSE I decided to surprise them with a visit to Normandy in France. We are sailing via Condor Ferries from Poole, making a stop in Guernsey before heading to St Malo and then have a two-hour drive to Eco Gites of Lenault which will be our base for exploring for a week. I last visited Normandy many years ago whilst still at school, so it is a long time… Continue Reading “Planning a visit to Normandy”

Save a Life, Learn to Swim and #Win with Swimshop

Swimming

A recent study found that 57% of children between 7-11 years old cannot swim. In a bid to change this Swimshop are running a ‘Save a Life, Learn to Swim’ campaign. It is estimated that children require at least 25 hours of lessons to swim confidently a distance of 25 metres. Primary schools are offered 18 hours of swimming lessons per child a year, way below the recommended hours. If hours were raised to 25 across all primary schools as standard the number of children who can swim would rise by 200,000. The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) suggests that swimming should… Continue Reading “Save a Life, Learn to Swim and #Win with Swimshop”
