Our Travel Highlights of 2017

Santas Office

What a year 2017 has been! It has been a year of anticipation as I booked our dream holiday to Santa’s Lapland all the way back at the end of 2015 and have had to keep it a secret for over a year, which was not easy. But let’s go back to the beginning of the year where we started our travels with a week in Scotland. We stayed in a delightful cottage with Newton Farm Holidays in Angus and had an amazing week, exploring as much of the country as we could. Our holiday cottage was a short drive… Continue Reading “Our Travel Highlights of 2017”

Day 3 – Our Final Day at Santa’s Lapland

Saariselka

The final day of our visit to Santa’s Lapland was a nice relaxing day in comparison to the busyness of the Search for Santa day the previous day. Check-out time at the Saariselkä Inn is 10am, so we got up, dressed and packed everything up before we had breakfast so we could make the most of the time we had left. We had been given a coach time of mid-afternoon and were able to leave our cases at the pub, where we have breakfast, where they would be looked after until it was time to leave. The first thing on our… Continue Reading “Day 3 – Our Final Day at Santa’s Lapland”

Northern Lights Adventure with Santa’s Lapland

Northern Lights Tour

Seeing the Northern Lights is top of my bucket list, so when we discovered that you can take part in a Northern Lights Safari when we were staying at Santa’s Lapland we couldn’t pass up on the opportunity. We booked it for after our Search for Santa Day which mean’t we had to leave that slightly earlier (3.30pm), but we had made sure we packed everything in that we wanted to do. It is dark in Lapland by 3.30pm, so the tour departs by coach from the Holiday Club at 4.30pm. We did chuckle that the coach drove us two… Continue Reading “Northern Lights Adventure with Santa’s Lapland”

Searching for Santa at Santa’s Lapland

Searching for Santa at Santa's Lapland

Day two of our three-day trip to Saariselkä was our Search for Santa day. We were given our coach times the day before we left and we were one of the first to arrive for our day that promised to be packed full of fun. Tucked in our pockets were our magic tickets (the kids letters to Santa, that we had “posted” a few weeks previously) and the timings for our husky rides, the only set time given on the day. The rest of the day we could do whatever took our fancy. We arrived to a covering of fresh snow… Continue Reading “Searching for Santa at Santa’s Lapland”

Our Journey to Lapland with Santa’s Lapland

Small Planet

When I booked our holiday to Lapland, the plan was to keep it a secret from all the family. The plan worked at first, but when it came to Hubby booking his holiday from work, I gave in and told him what I was up to. However, we both agreed it should be a surprise for the kids. Thankfully, now all the kids are at school, researching and buying everything we needed to pack for Lapland was fairly simple and even when the cases came out of the loft the night before we were due to travel, they didn’t raise… Continue Reading “Our Journey to Lapland with Santa’s Lapland”

Staying in Santa’s Saariselkä Inn with Santa’s Lapland

Saariselka

We have just got home from a magical break with Santa’s Lapland and we had the most amazing time. Going on a Santa break is not cheap, especially when you take into consideration that you are only actually on resort for around 48 hours and I priced up lots of options before I made our booking last year. In the end I opted for the cheapest option which was staying in the Saariselkä Inn. but I have to admit this was the only part of the holiday that was slightly disappointing. The hotel itself is built in a traditional Lapland style… Continue Reading “Staying in Santa’s Saariselkä Inn with Santa’s Lapland”

What to pack for a holiday to Lapland

Lapland

Visiting Lapland with the kids to meet Father Christmas has been top of my bucket list for the last few years. It is recommended not to take babies and toddlers as the weather is extremely cold outside, generally around -12ᶜ and sometimes as low as -30ᶜ this time of year, so we have been waiting until Sebastian is old enough to enjoy it too. If you are travelling to Lapland with an organised tour they may provide some of your kit, including a thermal outer-suit made for Arctic conditions, cosy woollen socks, snow-boots, outer gloves and a hat. The key… Continue Reading “What to pack for a holiday to Lapland”

Our Travel wishlist for 2017

Carnival Vista

Writing a travel wishlist for the year is always trickier than a days out one as a lot depends on being able to get time off work and having the money to do it. Our travel plans have already changed this year with our holiday to Disneyland Paris during the kids extended half term break, cancelled as Hubby cannot get the time off work. To say we are disappointed is an understatement as every time Sebby sees an advert on the TV he exclaims that he wants to go there. Lesson One: Book school holiday time off as early as… Continue Reading “Our Travel wishlist for 2017”
