Is there Room on the Broom for Me at Mottisfont?

Mottisfont

I am a big fan of backyard travel; seeing the delights on your doorstep, and living in East Dorset, we often venture over the border to Hampshire. Writing the Britmums Family Days Out Round-Up, I am often introduced to some fabulous ideas for days out and one of the places I have been keen to try is Mottisfont, near Romsey. Over the summer holidays this National Trust property held The Gruffalo and Friends: the Art of Axel Scheffler exhibition, a display of imaginative illustrations from his work with Julia Donaldson and a trail around the estate, filled with fun things to find… Continue Reading “Is there Room on the Broom for Me at Mottisfont?”

Visiting the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu

Back in July I was invited to opening of the new World of Top Gear attraction at Beaulieu National Motor Museum. We had an amazing day but as it fell on a school day the kids were not able to join us so I promised them we would visit again over the school holidays. Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Portsmouth

HMS Alliance

We had annual passes to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and visited regularly last year, but there was one site we never quite got to – the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, which is situated over the water in Gosport. This weekend we finally got there and what a treat it was! With free parking, the museum is located on the waterfront on the former site of HMS Dolphin; home to the Submarine Service for 100 years. There is plenty to see as soon as you arrive with dive suits for the kids to clamber inside, a small explorer submarine to admire, a giant propeller… Continue Reading “Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Portsmouth”

A Dalek Invasion at Winchester Science Centre

This weekend we celebrated Isaac’s 9th birthday and booked a surprise day out for him. Isaac is Doctor Who mad, so when I heard that a Dalek Invasion was coming to Winchester Science Centre, I knew it would be something we would all love to attend. We dug out our Doctor Who costumes with Eliza choosing to go as the tenth doctor and Isaac deciding upon his Cyberman costume and set off for Winchester. Once inside we were booked onto two Dr Who themed shows and then headed off to see Dr Who themed displays, hands-on science, strolling costumers from… Continue Reading “A Dalek Invasion at Winchester Science Centre”
