Our Top Tips for spending Christmas away from home

Coombe Mill

This year we celebrated Christmas away from home at Coombe Mill in Cornwall. We first visited Coombe Mill for Christmas 2013 and loved it so much we headed back again in 2014. Sadly due to work commitments we were unable to return, but this year we found ourselves back in their biggest property – Tree Roots. I actually find spending Christmas away from home less stressful, as there is less pressure to make it perfect, however, it is not without its challenges, especially in the build up to the break. Our Top Tips for spending Christmas away from home Pick… Continue Reading “Our Top Tips for spending Christmas away from home”

Give experiences that grow your kids’ world

Kids on the Beach

Travelling with kids can be a challenge, whether you are home or away, but it is such a rewarding experience for all the family. We like to go off the beaten track and really explore wherever it is that we are visiting, whether it be a historical building or enjoying the great outdoors where we let the kids be kids and help find the courage to clamber over rocks or explore that dark and eerie cave. When exploring places with the kids it is important for them to be properly dressed for the occasion and alongside our trusty waterproofs, woolly… Continue Reading “Give experiences that grow your kids’ world”

Sailing with Santa and City Cruises Poole

Eliza with Santa

There is one Christmas day out that has become an annual event since 2015 for us, because we love it so much – Sail with Santa around Poole Harbour. Every year, Santa takes a break from all of his hard work in the North Pole to join City Cruise Poole for a trip around Poole Harbour, passing Brownsea Island, Sandbanks Peninsula, Studland Bay and more.  However, it is not just Santa onboard, but family favourite Dr Balloonman who provides the entertainment and magic to help get the big man on board. Adults get to enjoy a glass of mulled wine… Continue Reading “Sailing with Santa and City Cruises Poole”

Dick Whittington at Mayflower Southampton – Review

Mayflower Southampton

As a lover of all things pantomime, in a bit of a shock twist, I had never seen Dick Whittington until last week, when we saw it at Lighthouse Poole. and now I have seen it twice, with our second version at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. We arrived at the Mayflower, full of anticipation for the night ahead and the kids were over the moon to meet some of the menacing rats before the show. The show opened with the cat dancing around the Dick Whittington in lights before King Rat (Steve McFadden) appeared on the stage, to the… Continue Reading “Dick Whittington at Mayflower Southampton – Review”

A visit to the SS Great Britain in Bristol

SS Great Britain Isaac

We last visited Bristol back in 2016 and fell in love with the vibrant city and there was one attraction that we wanted to visit, but sadly ran out of time – the SS Great Britain. Now, with Kian at university in Bristol, we have an excuse to visit more and when we headed there last month, I made a plan of places to go and the SS Great Britain was top of my list. The SS Great Britain was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel,  one of the world’s most pioneering engineers – surveyor of the Great Western Railway, architect of… Continue Reading “A visit to the SS Great Britain in Bristol”

Dick Whittington roars into the Lighthouse Poole – Pantomime Review

Lighthouse Poole

We are big fans of pantomimes and visiting the theatre is always one of the highlights of this time of year.. We were invited along to Lighthouse Poole to go and see their latest Christmas offering – Dick Whittington and were not disappointed. Produced by Peter Duncan and Duncan Reeves from Duncan Reeves Productions, who are at Lighthouse Poole for the third year after the success of Aladdin and Cinderella, they are joined by CBeebies star Chris Jarvis as director, co-writer and star of the show!! This rags to riches tail starts with a bang as Fairy Bow Bells (Charlotte Knowles)… Continue Reading “Dick Whittington roars into the Lighthouse Poole – Pantomime Review”
