Visiting Crumlin Road Gaol with Kids

Isaac Crumlin Road

When we started planning our visit to Belfast, we had a list of places we wanted to visit. Crumlin Road Gaol wasn’t on it – who wants to visit a grim prison? However, a chance meeting with our AirBnB host and his recommendation for it as a brilliant day out, saw it added to our visit list. HMP Belfast, also known as Crumlin Road Gaol, is a former prison situated on the Crumlin Road in North Belfast and is the only Victorian era prison remaining in Northern Ireland since 1996. We booked on a daily guided tour which runs every… Continue Reading “Visiting Crumlin Road Gaol with Kids”

Exploring Castle Ward and Audley’s Castle

Dire Wolf

There are a number of reasons that we chose Northern Ireland for our half term break this year, but one of the main ones was to find as many of HBO’s Game of Thrones® filming sites as possible. With a young family in tow, we decided against doing a structured tour to allow us to explore at our own pace, instead downloading the Discover Ireland Game of Thrones app, available on GooglePlay and Appstore which gives you location names and directions to help you find them. The first location on our list was Castle Ward, a National Trust property, whose… Continue Reading “Exploring Castle Ward and Audley’s Castle”

A Stay at Staybridge Suites – Manchester

Staybridge Suites - Manchester

During February half term, we were invited to stay at Staybridge Suites Manchester. Situated in Oxford Road, in the heart of Manchester’s Knowledge Quarter, the suites are nestled in between The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University Campuses.  The hotel does not have its own car park and I have to admit that, thanks to some building work outside, we did struggle to find the entrance to the NCP car park which is situated next door. Thankfully the hotel receptionist managed to point us in the right direction and we were soon heading upstairs to check in. Travelling with a family,… Continue Reading “A Stay at Staybridge Suites – Manchester”

The Full Monty, Mayflower Theatre – Review

Audition

Way back sometime last year, Hubby booked tickets to see The Full Monty at the Mayflower Theatre as a Valentine’s Date Night with a difference. The stage show, adapted for the stage by Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy, has been running for an incredible six years, but this is the first time we have seen it and we were not disappointed. We were first whizzed back to 1972 when the Steel business was booming in Sheffield and the workers promised jobs for life. It was then fast forward 25 years to tell the tale of six redundant Sheffield steelworkers who turn… Continue Reading “The Full Monty, Mayflower Theatre – Review”

The ultimate Valentine’s Experience for him

Power Boat

Valentine’s Day is one of the few celebration days that is held on the same day every year, 14th February. It is a day when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts and although it has origins as far back as the Roman times, it became celebrated as a day of romance since the 14th Century. I have been with my husband for 20+ years now and gone are the days of secretly sending a card, buying a cute cuddly toy and doing battle in with other couples to get a good table in the local restaurant. This year… Continue Reading “The ultimate Valentine’s Experience for him”

Discovering wonders of the deep at Bristol Aquarium

Sebby Aquarium

Back in November, we spent a weekend in Bristol visiting Kian who is now at university in the city. During our visited we enjoyed some of the city’s top tourist attractions including Bristol Zoo, We the Curious, SS Great Britain and Bristol Aquarium. Bristol Aquarium is just a stones throw from We the Curious on the harbourside, so we parked at Millenium Square and decided to make a day of it. Bristol Aquarium is home to 40 naturally-themed displays where you can spot thousands of amazing aquatic creatures, including tropical sharks, rays, seahorses, puffer fish, piranhas, and even a couple… Continue Reading “Discovering wonders of the deep at Bristol Aquarium”
