How to plan for a gap year trip

Gap Year

Your once little ones have now reached the terrifying age of 18 and are officially no longer children. Suddenly the doors of life burst open and things that were once illegal are now part of their everyday lives; being able to vote, get married, apply for a mortgage, get a tattoo, just to name a few.  An increasingly popular thing young adults often find themselves doing is heading off on a gap year.  The experience of going it alone and seeing the world can be one of the best times of their life, and a memory they will remember forever.… Continue Reading “How to plan for a gap year trip”

Matilda the Musical on tour!!

Matilda

We first saw Matilda the Musical in London back in January 2017 and then last year we took Eliza to see it and she fell in love. When we found out that they were taking the musical on tour, we made sure we booked tickets to see it when it landed at the Mayflower Southampton. The stage was set up just like it is in London, which added to the excitement for us all. Matilda is mine and Eliza’s favourite Roald Dahl book, full of magic, dark humour and larger-than-life characters, which transfers perfectly to stage and the actors really didn’t… Continue Reading “Matilda the Musical on tour!!”

Teaching the kids about the Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey

1066 Battlefield

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to stay in a stunning holiday cottage in Littlesea, by Kent and Sussex Cottages. We travelled up on Friday night via the motorways, however, on Sunday we came home I decided to take the coastal route back through Sussex so we could stagger our journey and visit some attractions on the way back to Dorset, with our first stop being Battle Abbey in Hastings. Battle Abbey is a partially ruined Benedictine abbey in Battle, East Sussex and is famous for being built on the site of the Battle of Hastings. I find the kids don’t learn history… Continue Reading “Teaching the kids about the Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey”

WATERFLY Folding Smart Backpack

Waterfly-backpack

Travelling with kids is fun, but you need to be prepared. When mine were little we used to load up the pram / buggy with everything we needed for a day out, but now they are a little older, we take a backpack with us for the supplies we need for the trip. We were sent the WATERFLY Folding Smart Backpack to review, and it really is a brilliant bag for travel because there are four ways to wear it – as a traditional backpack, a sling bag, a waist bag and a fitness bag on your arm / leg,… Continue Reading “WATERFLY Folding Smart Backpack”

Staying at Summer Mews with Kent and Sussex Cottages

3-Summer-Mews

When travelling, as a larger than average family, we prefer the convenience of staying in a holiday cottage rather than a hotel as it gives us the space to relax without getting under each others feet. In May we were offered a weekend break with Kent and Sussex Cottages and got to stay in a the beautiful Summer Mews townhouse in Littlesea, Kent. We couldn’t have asked for a better location, as the property enjoyed views over, not one, but two golf course, glimpses of the sea and countryside in the distance. It was also a mere 5 minute walk… Continue Reading “Staying at Summer Mews with Kent and Sussex Cottages”
