South Coast Classic Tour: Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Sebby Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

We toyed with the idea of hiring a car during our visit to Iceland, but decided instead to take arranged coach tours to some of the sights we wanted to see. We actually used two companies and our first excursion was with Reykjavik Sightseeing, on their South Coast Classic Tour. We were collected at our nearest bus stop to our apartments and taken to the main bus station, where we picked up our coach and met our tour guide, Alex. It was raining when we left Reykjavik and I have to admit that we didn’t get much of a view… Continue Reading “South Coast Classic Tour: Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach”

Les Misérables on tour: The Mayflower Theatre – Review

barricade

My husband LOVES the musical Les Misérables and back in September 2018 I finally gave in and went to see the musical in the West End. It was one of the best theatre experiences I have ever had, so when we found out it was heading to our local theatre, The Mayflower in Southampton, we booked tickets straight away. As we approached the theatre, we were excited to see that it was lit up in the colours of le Tricolore, which really set the scene for what was to come. My husband managed to secure tickets in the very front… Continue Reading “Les Misérables on tour: The Mayflower Theatre – Review”

City Sightseeing Tour of Reykjavik – Review

Reykjavik-Church

I often see the vibrant red buses of City Sightseeing in our own home town of Bournemouth, but until now we have never been on one. On our first full day in Reykjavik, Iceland, we decided to hop on one their local bus for a tour of the beautiful city. The Reykjavik City Sightseeing Tour starts at the Harpa Concert Hall, situated next to the Old Harbour and is just a 10 minute walk from where we stayed, so we took advantage of the good weather and wandered along the harbour front, drinking in all the fantastic views. We all… Continue Reading “City Sightseeing Tour of Reykjavik – Review”

Is the Blue Lagoon suitable for kids?

When we started planning our trip to Iceland, the first destination we wanted to visit was the Blue Lagoon. It is the perfect destination to visit either to or from the airport as it is just a 20 minute transfer aboard a coach and they offer a separate secure Luggage House in the carpark, where you can store your luggage securely for a small extra charge. We opted to pre-book for the day we arrived, with our swimming stuff carefully transported in a cabin bag and boarded the transfer bus at the airport. Our bus tickets also included transfers from… Continue Reading “Is the Blue Lagoon suitable for kids?”

Opal Apartments Iceland – Review

Reyjavik-Harbour

When travelling with the kids, we prefer to stay in a apartment or cottage as it gives us more space and the chance for the kids to have their own space. During our stay in Iceland, we stayed at Opal Apartments which are situated on the main Laugavegur Street – one of the oldest streets in Iceland’s capital. Although it is the main high street, Opal Apartments are situated at the end and apart from the occasional bus rumbling past, we found them very quiet and peaceful. The apartment had an open plan kitchen and living area, with all the home comforts… Continue Reading “Opal Apartments Iceland – Review”
