BSO Proms in the Park – Review

Yesterday we attended our very first Proms in the Park with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO). Eliza and Isaac both attended the BSO KS2 Schools’ Concerts earlier this year, where they not only got to listen to the fantastic orchestra, but also got to perform with them by learning a special body percussion routine which they really enjoyed. Held at Meyrick Park in central Bournemouth, the BSO is running three events this week, with ours being the relaxed Family Afternoon. We were treated by performances from three BSO ensembles, including BSO Resound, made up of disabled musicians, the youth orchestra,… Continue Reading “BSO Proms in the Park – Review”

The New Tropical House at Marwell Zoo

Marwell Eliza

Last week we were lucky enough to attend the opening night of the new Tropical House at Marwell Zoo. Powered by “zoo poo”, the innovative and sustainable “Energy for Life” Tropical House is the first in the UK to generate energy using waste created by animals at the zoo. The Tropical House looked stunning in the golden evening light and I can only imagine how gorgeous it will look when the plant life establishes itself outside the building. You are greeted by large screens depicting moving images as you head inside the first door, which the kids were fascinated by.… Continue Reading “The New Tropical House at Marwell Zoo”

A Day Out at Blue Pool and Swanage Railway

During the last week of the school holidays, summer made a re-appearance and we made the most of the nice weather and enjoyed some local days out. Isaac loves dragonflies and Bluepool in Wareham is one of the best places locally to find them. The Pool is surrounded by 25 acres of heath, woodland and gorse interlaced with sandy paths, trails, playgrounds and fairy doors to find so is the perfect day out for all the family, with the promise of a cream tea or ice cream reward at the end. The Blue Pool at Furzebrook constantly varies in colour. Very… Continue Reading “A Day Out at Blue Pool and Swanage Railway”
