Just for Us

A Segway Tour of Upton Country Park

Ever since we did a Forest Segway Tour with Go Ape we have been itching to do another, so when I spotted a groupon offer for Dorset Segway Tours I just had to snap it up.
Dorset Segway’s operate at Upton Country Park in Poole and have a free rein to explore the magnificent grounds which includes the shoreline of Holes Bay, the neatly manicured lawns, the Grove woodland area and stopping for some photo’s by Upton House itself.
Dorset Segway
You start with a safety briefing and a few laps around the training area where you learn to stop, start and steer before setting off on the tour of Upton Country Park.
Dorset Segway
The self balancing segway, i2 and x2 let you glide effortlessly around the park, although it does get a little bumpy in places.

We are frequent visitors to Upton Country Park with the kids, but I have to admit that we have not explored the grounds to their full potential and taking this tour introduced us to all the areas we had missed, including the magnificent mud flats of Holes Bay.
Holes Bay
The Segways themselves are easy to control and are limited to 9 mph which is slightly slower than the ones at Go Ape, although a lot of the tour was on windy narrow pathways so it was perfectly fast enough.

Nanny came along to watch with Sebby and they had great fun enjoying everything the park had to offer and chasing us around when they spotted us.

Once we reached the lawns of Upton Country House we were invited to go faster and zigzag amongst the trees for a bit of extra fun.

The maximum group size per tour is six, however there were just three of us plus the instructor which was the perfect size.
Dorset Segway
Dorset Segways are perfect for beginners as the course is a lot more gentle than that of Moors Valley, which you can tell by the fact that Hubby was taking selfies as he rode around.
Dorset Segway
The experience lasts around an hour and for the best deals I strongly recommend you visit the Dorset Segway Facebook page, as all offers are on there!

Those segways have some serious wheels! I have to admit, the thought of going on one of those terrifies me!! Looks to me like you had a lot of fun though!

I think it’s a great way to get to know a big area like a country park – you can cover a lot more ground than on foot.

I think segways are my favourite things to do – I can see why you snapped up that offer! It’s nice that you benefitted from a small group to get more of the instructor’s individual attention.

Oh that looks like really good fun, it looks like a good way to see the whole area as I know my kids often get tired after a bit of a walk

Are we nearly there yet? is a new online blog run by me, Kara Guppy, and is named as such thanks to my daughter Eliza who always asks that very question when we are less than 5 minutes up the road heading off on our adventures. You may know me from my other family blog chelseamamma.co.uk
