Visiting the Palace of Versailles with kids

During our visit to La Croix du Vieux Pont with Al Fresco holidays in half term, we made the most of our week with visits to the City of Paris, Disneyland and Parc Asterix. After three days of theme parks, we decided to finish the week with a little more culture by visiting the Palace of Versailles. We weren’t keen on driving in Paris, but luckily the route to Versailles was fairly straight forward and avoided the city centre. The roads around Versailles themselves are very quaint and there is a handy carpark directly outside the palace, costing €16 per day. What we… Continue Reading “Visiting the Palace of Versailles with kids”

A half term visit to Paris

Arc De Triomphe

Back in September I decided to make myself a travel bucketlist of 50 places to visit as I creep towards the grand old age of 50. One of those locations was Paris and during our Al Fresco holiday to La Croix du Vieux Pont in half term, I finally got to visit the city that has been eluding me for years. Having driven from Caen to the campsite, we weren’t that confident about driving in Paris as even the outskirts were a little hair-raising, so we decided to book the coach tour that they offer, which drops you at the Palais… Continue Reading “A half term visit to Paris”

Halloween Fun at Parc Asterix

Asterix Gaul

Over October half term we stayed just outside Paris with Al Fresco Holidays at La Croix du Vieux Pont. When visiting Paris, there is one theme park that is always top of the list of must-visits – Disneyland Paris, but let me introduce you to another option – Parc Asterix. If you have not heard of Asterix, he is one of the most beloved characters in French popular culture. He resides in a remote Gaulish village in the middle of the Roman Empire, with his best friend, Obelix and a series of humorous comics portray him as a diminutive but fearless… Continue Reading “Halloween Fun at Parc Asterix”

Staying at La Croix du Vieux Pont with Al Fresco Holidays

Kayaking

Over October half term we headed to France with Al Fresco Holidays to their fabulous park La Croix du Vieux Pont, which is the perfect base for day trips to Paris and Disneyland. We opted for their package holiday option, which included ferry travel with Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen. I have to admit, there was a certain amount of trepidation for the ferry journey, as our last one back in 2016 was a real baptism of fire as the weather was terrible. Thankfully we took our own advice on preparing for a ferry trip with kids and were ready… Continue Reading “Staying at La Croix du Vieux Pont with Al Fresco Holidays”

Our Travel wishlist for 2017

Carnival Vista

Writing a travel wishlist for the year is always trickier than a days out one as a lot depends on being able to get time off work and having the money to do it. Our travel plans have already changed this year with our holiday to Disneyland Paris during the kids extended half term break, cancelled as Hubby cannot get the time off work. To say we are disappointed is an understatement as every time Sebby sees an advert on the TV he exclaims that he wants to go there. Lesson One: Book school holiday time off as early as… Continue Reading “Our Travel wishlist for 2017”
