A visit to Pena Palace with the kids

Pena Palace

In my last post I talk about visiting the beautiful town of Sintra and Castelo Dos Mouros with the kids. Once we had climbed down from the castle, we caught the 434 tourist bus to take us up to Pena Palace, the most popular tourist attraction in Sintra. It is possible to walk it but it is situated at the second highest point of the Serra da Sintra so not ideal for little legs. Thankfully we jumped the queue for tickets as had bought a combined ticket for both attractions earlier in the day. Visiting Castelo dos Mouros and Sintra with the kids!

Castelo dos mouros view

No visit to Lisbon should be done without the stunning town of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for the colourful Pena Palace, Castle of the Moors, Palacio Quinta da Regaleira and Monserrate Palace. Although public transport is available, during our stay at Martinhal Cacais, the helpful team at the hotel assisted me in booking a taxi so we could not only visit Sintra, but go via Cabo da Roca, the most western point of mainland Europe. Sintra is a popular tourist destination, set in the pine-covered hills of the Serra de Sintra. It is home to fascinating historic buildings, more than… Continue Reading “Visiting Castelo dos Mouros and Sintra with the kids!”

Lighthouse Cabo Da Roca

Whilst researching our break in Portugal I made a list of all the things we wanted to see and do. One of those things was to visit Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for the colourful Pena Palace, Castle of the Moors, Palacio Quinta da Regaleira and Monserrate Palace and about a half an hour taxi ride from where we were staying at in Cacais. With the focus on the stunning historical palaces, it is easy to miss that the most western point of mainland Europe lies within the Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascais, so I made sure that a visit… Continue Reading “A blustery visit to Cabo da Roca”

Martinhal Cacais – the perfect location for a family holiday in Portugal

Over half term we were lucky enough to spend a few days in Lisbon, Portugal with Martinhal Resorts. We split our time in Lisbon between two of their family friendly resorts, Martinhal Cacais on the coast and Martinhal Chiado, the world’s first city centre Family Hotel, situated in the old town. As you might expect, the two resorts offer very different breaks, but both were perfectly suited to family travel and offered all the home from home comforts that you need when travelling with children. Martinhal Cacais was our first port of call on our holiday and is perfect for… Continue Reading “Martinhal Cacais – the perfect location for a family holiday in Portugal”
